Ambassador Jöran Bjällerstedt received at his office at the Swedish Embassy in Nairobi Kenya, Somaliland Representative Sweden H.E Eidarus Sh Adan, who is currently visiting Nairobi Kenya. H.E Eidarus Sh Adan came directly from Hargeisa Somaliland. During his visit to Hargeisa H.E Eidarus Sh Adan met Somaliland President, H.E Dahir Riyale Kahin, Speaker of the House of Representatives Rt.h. Abdirahman M Abdillahi, General Secretary for the House of Elders, Chairman and the board of Somaliland National Election Commission and MPs from the both chambers and the political parties.

H.E Eidarus Sh Adan briefed the Special Envoy for Somalia about the current situation in Somaliland and he decision of the House of Elders to prolong the period of the President to October 29. H.E Eidarus Sh Adan informed also about the preparations for the forthcoming election and the standing issues concerning Final Voter List. During the meeting the both parties talked about the important role Interpeace, who is responsible for technical part of the election preparations and the Somaliland Election Commission have inorder to speed up their effort , so that a fair and free election can take place.

Ambassador Jöran Bjällerstedt visited Somaliland march 11 and met all the stakeholders for the forthcoming election. Sweden is one of the major donors for the forthcoming election. Sweden holds the presidency of the European Union between july and December 2009 and it is likely that the Somaliland election takes place during the Swedish presidency of EU.

The meeting ended on a mutual understanding and a good atmosphere.
